John’s Blog: Happy New Year!
by John Meadows on January 2, 2016Happy New Year everyone! I am celebrating the New Year eating cod and doing diet specials. Don’t feel bad for me though, as I had a lifetime supply of my favorite food, pecan pie, last week. I can still taste the calorically dense bolus of goodness…
Well it is official. I am in the Arnold Classic!
This has been a lifelong dream to me. Many times, winning a state title seemed out of reach, placing at a pro qualifier, placing in a pro show, actually competing in the Arnold or Olympia….it has all sounded far-fetched to me at times, but I just kept working and as long as I get better, I have kept improving and competing. People ask me all the time when I will retire, and the answer is simple, when my body starts to go south. I will not be like the past his prime boxer who continues to box despite rapidly eroding skills. Once I start showing signs if aging (saggy chest, lack of quad sweep etc.) I will retire gracefully. Until then, I am going to go for it.
This being said, I am going to document my diet and cardio regimen through the entire prep so you can follow along here.
I found out Tuesday that I was in and started my diet Wednesday. Here is my starting point at 9.5 weeks out.

Cardio will start on Monday. I will likely do a slight incline walk on treadmill at a moderate pace.
My weight is at about 227-228, and I am not that fat. Look for update pics on my Instagram and Facebook later next week. Just a few days in, I already look much better.
I am also documenting my training and that will be built as my next training program – not sure what to call this one….any suggestions?
Until next time – keep cranking!
